SWIMMING champion Libby Trickett is leaving Brisbane radio to pursue a career teaching sport.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist announced on air on Friday that she was resigning from Triple M’s local drive show, The Rush Hour, after one year.

After giving birth to her second daughter, Edwina Daisy, in February, Trickett took some time out of her radio gig, during which she decided to change tack and study primary education.

She hopes to teach physical education.

“While taking this time out of radio and spending more time with my family, I realised I’d like to pursue another passion,” Trickett, 33, said.

“When I was first leaving high school, before I made it onto the Australian Swimming Team, I had a dream to become a teacher, so I’m going to study education. I’m really excited about it.”

Margaux Parker, wife of former rugby league star Corey, had been filling in for Trickett throughout her maternity leave and will continue in the role until the end of the year, joining other regular hosts Luke Bradnam and Ben Dobbin.

“It’s been a real pleasure to be able to connect with people and that’s the thing I’ve absolutely loved most about radio,” Trickett said.

Trickett and husband Luke also have a two-year-old daughter, Poppy.

In March she told Confidential about her fears of having a second child after suffering post-natal depression as a first-time mother, saying she was anxious about “going back to work and having to juggle two kids”.

But she said for her “work is a really important part of who I am and I was a person before I had kids.”
