TELEVISION veteran and former Sony Pictures Television high-flyer Kylie Munnich will fill Tracey Vieira’s shoes as chief executive of Screen Queensland.

Ms Munnich will begin the top job with the state’s peak film body on October 16, following an extensive search since Ms Vieira’s departure in August after five years at the helm.

The role is a return home to Queensland for Ms Munnich, who has 25 years of expertise in international screen distribution and development.

“I am eager to leverage our State’s strong track record and continue to invest in local stories for global audiences, attract productions and cement our reputation as a screen production hub,” she said in a statement on Friday.

Having previously lived in London, Ms Munnich served as the Director of Drama & Comedy at Sky Vision, Senior Vice President UK, Ireland & Africa at Sony Pictures Television International and a Sales Director at MGM International Television.

For the past year Ms Munnich has been working with Seven Studios in Sydney, where she was tasked with identifying co-production and creative partnership opportunities for the group’s scripted and comedy slates.

It comes after Ms Vieira helped deliver a record year for the state’s film industry in 2018, with 32 productions in film, television and games, generating $262 million for the state’s economy and creating 2,600 jobs.

“Following the departure of our long-serving Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira in August, it was important an experienced hand took the reins to keep Queensland’s screen industry on a course of opportunity and prosperity,” Screen Queensland Chair Linda Lavarch said.

“Her extensive experience abroad will serve the State well as we work to secure the biggest and best international blockbusters, while continuing to develop diverse homegrown content with global appeal.

Ms Munnich completed a Bachelor of Arts and Drama at the University of Queensland in 1986 and a Bachelor of Business specialising in Communications and Public Relations from the Queensland University of Technology in 1990.
