HOLD the door — limited tickets remain for Game of Thrones star Kristian Nairn’s DJ shows around Australia.
The Northern Irish actor, who played beloved character Hodor on the HBO show, is currently touring his Rave of Thrones DJ set, with performances in Perth, Brisbane, Wollongong, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
The house music lover, who was a resident DJ at Belfast club for years before his acting career took off, has played to many of his co-stars, including Flinn Jones (Ser Loras Tyrell) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow). He says Gwendoline Christie — aka Brienne of Tarth — raves the hardest.
“She’s amazing and you cannot miss her on the dance floor.”
He says there’s a huge cross over between Game of Thrones fans and the rave crowd.
“The Game of Thrones fans tend to dress up. It’s always funny because at the end of the night they have their hair let down like everybody else. They’re raving away with the best of them.”
Nairn stole the show last season when his character met his triumphant end and Hodor’s back story — including the secret to his name — was revealed.
“I knew only about a year before, which is a smart move because I can’t keep my trap shut,” says Nairn, 41.
The episode rocked audiences everywhere and became a talking point — or something that people weren’t allowed to talk about — all over the world.
“Still to this day I get people talking about it daily,” says Nairn.
“I feel like I’ve become some sort of therapist. On a flight recently a woman leant across the seats and looked me dead in the eyes and said she cried for three days.
“Even President Obama has talked about it.”
The actor says his Game of Thrones role has opened the door to other projects. The gaming fan is currently a consultant on app Kings of Avalon: Dragon Warfare and has future film and TV work — which he is keeping his trap shut about — coming up.
He has also just bought a house in Northern Ireland, a place he says, despite the travel, he never wants to leave.
“There’s nothing that would prompt me to live anywhere else. I’ve always said the only other place I would live would be Australia because it’s the only place where they get my sense of humour.”
In the meantime, he’s excited to get people on their feet — and yes, he will drop a remix of the Game of Thrones tune.
“I never stopped DJing through the entire Game of Thrones process. I never saw the need to stop because I do love it so much. I play music for people all over the world. It’s a huge privilege.”
