Jason Momoa makes splash on Aquaman red carpet on the Gold Coast
Hollywood heart-throb Jason Momoa got up close and personal with fans when he walked the blue carpet at the Australian premiere of DC’s $220 million blockbuster Aquaman on the Gold Coast on Tuesday night.

HOLLYWOOD hunk Jason Momoa made a splash with fans on the Gold Coast at the Australian premiere of Aquaman on Tuesday night.
The 39-year-old star, who plays the titular character in the $220 million Queensland-filmed blockbuster, dazzled the crowd — who had lined up for hours to catch a glimpse of the actor — as he walked the blue carpet at Events Cinemas Robina.
Before taking questions, Momoa paused to take a swig from his can of Guinness, to the delight of the watching masses, before revealing his first stop in Queensland today was the Gold Coast’s Surfboard Warehouse.
“We landed and went straight to my friend’s surfboard place because we are making a board here, an aquaman kind of Atlantis board,” he said.
“Then we went to rick shores at Burleigh. Then we went to MovieWorld.”
When asked if a sequel would film here he said: “I think it probably would. I find it hard to believe that Aquaman would shoot in London.”
The best part about filming in Queensland he said was “Just being able to jump in the water”
He spent 30 minutes taking selfies and greeting fans and later posed for photos with twins Tamor and Tainui Kirkwood, who play young Aquaman in the film.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told The Courier-Mail she was proud to see the state go “from strength to strength”.
“It (hosting the Australian premiere) means we are able to do the best of the best right here on the Gold Coast,” she said.
Acting as animated for fans and media at the premieres as he does on the big screen has become signature for Momoa, who has jetted around the world with the film, attending screenings in cities including London, Beijing and Los Angeles, where he performed a traditional haka alongside a group including his two children — Nakoa-Wolf and Lola — and Kiwi actor and co-star Temuera Morrison.
Earlier in the day, the casually dressed Game of Thrones actor jetted into Brisbane airport ahead of the premiere.
Filming on Aquaman began on the Gold Coast in May 2017 and wrapped in October of the same year, with Momoa living like a local during those months, being spotted throughout southeast Queensland and in Byron Bay surfing, hitting the gym, rock climbing and enjoying concerts and attending State of Origin.
The DC comic book film is proving to be one of the biggest fish in the sea, having now topped the $200 million mark.
The James Wan-directed movie, which raked in $150 million internationally in its first two weekends alone, has now grossed more than $266,400,000 worldwide according to Box Office Mojo and was widely tipped to surpass the $300 million mark by today.
With the success expected to continue, it is set to become one of the biggest superhero films of all-time.
Aquaman, which hits Australian cinemas on December 26, also stars Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson and Dolph Lundgren.
The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and follows him on the journey of his lifetime, which forces him to face who he really is as well as discover whether he is worthy of who he was born to be — a king.
There will be a fan event, also attended by Momoa, in Sydney on Wednesday.
