The Jungle Love Music and Arts Festival 2023 event has been cancelled as organisers reveal inflation and the cost of living crisis were too much for their grassroots show.
In a statement released to the festival’s website, organisers explained that ongoing inflation driving supplier costs up and the cost of living crisis rendering more people unable to justify spending over $300 on a ticket.
Festival director Raymond Williams told The Courier-Mail he was saddened but relieved to make the announcement citing the loss the event had experienced over the past few years were financially devastating.
“This is the case right across the live music industry. There is a huge oversaturation of events that are struggling at the moment because we had three years of backlog,” Mr Williams said.
A GoFundMe was created in order to prevent the cancellation of the festival however, as explained in their post, organisers were not seeing the ticket sales to be assured they could pay for the expenses of running the event.
“As a small, independent, not-for-profit event, our margins are paper thin, and we cannot afford the risk of operating at another loss,” Mr Williams said.
“We had to consider it’s not just the cost of the ticket people are spending money on for a festival. It’s also alcohol, camping, transportation and food as well.”
Mr Williams said he plans to have the festival back up and running as soon as they can justify the costs and he know people can afford to pay for a ticket.
“In the mean time we plan to hold camp-out fundraisers from now and until we return. It’s a chance for us to get involved with the people that come to the festival and connect more with our community,” he said.
