“That time was extraordinary; I couldn’t really go anywhere without frenetic activity,” he recalls.
“But the way it worked for us was we had two distinct periods of success, with about eight years in between, so I was always very aware that it wouldn’t last forever.
“That’s what I would tell Justin; it will eventually go away.”
Icehouse’s Man of Colours is still the highest-selling album in Australia by an Australian band, a feat Davies still finds extraordinary.
After a 16-year hiatus from performing, the band regrouped and now play a few select shows a year.
“A couple of months ago we put our very first live album together,” he said.
“In a way it was kind of fortunate we had a very long break; the band has never sounded better.
“We were really lucky to be part of a golden age of Australian music. The fact that we’re still going ... that’s a remarkable thing.”
Icehouse will perform at the Empire Theatre, Toowoomba, on January 29, and Sandstone Point Hotel, on January 30
