How you can vote in the TV Week Logie Awards 2018

THE short list of nominees for the 2018 TV Week Logie Awards will be announced on Sunday, and then voting to elect the winners will begin in earnest in June for the showcase event.

How do you get nominated for a Logie?

THE short list of nominees for the 2018 TV Week Logie Awards will be announced on Sunday, and then voting to elect the winners will begin in earnest in June for the showcase event.

This year’s Logies will be held for the first time on the Gold Coast at The Star casino, formerly Jupiters, after the Victorian Government withdrew funding for the time-honoured event.

The switch from Victoria to the Gold Coast had Queenslander and Today show co-host Karl Stefanovic up in arms and threatening to boycott the awards.

Given the network he works for is the one telecasting the event, it’s lucky he changed his tune, and has said he’s even keen to host the Logies which will be telecast on Nine on July 1.

Stefanovic will know if he’s a chance to win another Gold Logie by late Sunday afternoon when the 10 Most Popular Categories nominees are announced.

YOU CAN STILL VOTE FOR YOUR ‘MOST POPULAR’ CATEGORIES

For the first time ever, viewers will be able to vote for the 10 “most popular” categories up until showtime.

The first round of voting to determine the short list of nominees has closed, but the voting reopens in the 48 hours leading up to the end of the red-carpet telecast.

The public can vote online for their favourite celebrities, actors and programs from Friday, June 29 until the red carpet telecast ends on July 1. Vote here

The categories are:

  • Most Popular Actor
  • Most Popular Actress
  • Most Popular TV Presenter
  • Most Popular New Talent
  • Most Popular Drama Program
  • Most Popular Entertainment Program
  • Most Popular Comedy Program

WHO DETERMINES THE ‘MOST OUTSTANDING’ CATEGORIES?

While the public determines all the ‘Most Popular” categories, including the coveted Gold Logie, a panel of judges determine the ‘Most Outstanding’ categories.

The panels comprise of a mixture of TV Week judges and industry experts although their names are never revealed.

WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE THE RED CARPET LIVE?

You cannot buy tickets to view the red carpet and at best there may be limited restricted viewing spots on the day but be warned; you’re best chance of seeing all the action is on the live telecast. The entrance to Star is a vastly different configuration to Crown in Melbourne, where the event was previously held and where hundreds turned up to watch celebrities parade on the red carpet. Security will be tight and organisers cannot guarantee you’ll see anything if you turn up on the day. There will be seats in bleachers for fans but they’re reserved for competition winners.

IS THIS THE FIRST TIME THE LOGIES HAS BEEN HELD OUTSIDE OF MELBOURNE?

It’s the first time TV’s night-of-nights has been held in Queensland but it’s not the first time it’s been outside Victoria. The last time it was moved outside of Victoria was in 1981 when it was held at the Centerpoint Convention Centre in Sydney while in 1967 it was conducted on the cruise liner Fairstar. It was also Bert Newton’s first solo hosting gig of the awards.

Comedian Dave Hughes is the hot favourite to open the Logies again this year.

WHO WILL HOST?

It doesn’t seem the same without Bert Newton although Dave Hughes has made a good fist of the opening monologues for the past two years and on July he’s expected to again fire-up proceedings.

The last time there was a solo host was in 2011 when comedian Shane Bourne fronted the night and since then it’s been a number of different personalities. The same is expected in 2018.
