George Mason has cut his long blonde locks off ahead of heading to the US to give Hollywood another crack.
The 29-year-old is planning a trip to Los Angeles in September, where he will meet with film executives and hit the audition circuit.
“I had really long hair until yesterday when I shaved it off,” he told Confidential.

“It is part of the new look and new energy. I just wanted a change. Now it opens me up to maybe different roles that before I wouldn’t have gone for. People don’t see what you could be when you are in a room necessarily. They just see maybe the long hair so I thought I would mix it up.”
Mason heads to the US with a nice body of work under his belt.
He is of course known for playing Martin ‘Ash’ Ashford on Seven soap Home And Away from 2014 to 2018 but has shot two feature films that are being released this year.
Gregor Jordan’s Dirt Music was shot last year while Daffodils is screening as part of the Sydney Film Festival this week and will open in cinemas later in the year.
Daffodil is a “beautiful but sort of tragic love story” that also stars Rose McIver and award-winning singer Kimbra.
It is a biographical musical drama directed by David Stubbs in Mason’s home country New Zealand and is based on a story by Rochelle Bright.
“It is a super personal one,” he explained. “It is a beautiful story that goes through the 60s, 70s and 80s, which was crazy for me going through those different time periods. At the heart of it, it is about a Kiwi male who can’t express himself, which is a universal thing with guys.”
In NZ, Mason is also known for his work on Go Girls, The Blue Rose and Shortland Street.
Reflecting on his years playing Ash on Home And Away, he said: “Home And Away was a great job. It gave me a bit of financial stability, which was nice, but I like the freedom of not being tied to a TV show to be honest. As great as it was, I have done my time. It is exciting auditioning for new stuff but it can also be pretty tough. Being an unemployed actor is not that cool.”
