Home And Away star Olivia Deeble ready to play a Disney princess

Teen Home And Away star Olivia Deeble is already living her Hollywood dream as a Disney princess. She scored the gig after auditioning against some 7000 other hopefuls around the time her contract was coming to an end.

Hollywood has come earlier for Olivia Deeble than most. While countless other Aussie actors spend years putting in the hard yards in the hope of one day landing a job in Los Angeles, 16-year-old Deeble is already a few weeks into shooting Disney movie, Secret Society Of Second Born Royals.

She scored the gig after auditioning against some 7000 other hopefuls and the timing couldn’t have been better, with Deeble’s three-year Home And Away contract coming to an end.

“I hoped for it but I didn’t ever think it was going to happen this quickly,” the daughter of actor Kate Gorman and granddaughter of The Sullivans star Reg Gorman tells BW Magazine.

“I was fully prepared to be able to do as much work as possible and to go to the US and audition for things, to go to drama school. I was always going to work hard, this just happened a bit earlier than expected.”

Deeble, who turns 17 in August, will be seen as Princess Roxana in the Disney film that will also star US actors Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Faly Rakotohavana, Isabella Blake and Niles Fitch.

With Home And Away filmed well in advance, Deeble will continue to be seen on-screen as Raffy for some time but Toronto is currently the teen’s home base as she spends at least another month shooting over 13-hour days.

“I read the character and I was immediately drawn to her,” Deeble says.

“Princess Roxana is a contemporary princess so it does incorporate her social media into it, she is a big make-up fiend, which has been so fun to play. She is vain and really rich but layered with insecurities.”

Secret Society Of Second Born Royals has a production schedule of two months. By contrast, Home And Away actors shoot five episodes or 2½ hours of TV each week.

The Aussie soap has of course been credited with starting the careers of countless Australian actors, among them Chris Hemsworth, Isla Fisher, Melissa George, Ryan Kwanten and Tammin Sursok.

“It is a different kind of stamina,” Deeble explains.

“With this the takes take a lot longer and we are only shooting a couple of scenes a day but that has been awesome as well.”

Looking more broadly at her career ahead, Deeble hopes to work on different projects around the world.

“I would love to be a successful actress who works in film, TV and theatre, that is the aim,” she says.

“I would love to be able to branch out to fulfil myself and also to be successful.”

Naming Margot Robbie as her biggest acting inspiration, she adds: “Success to me means that I am happy and working creating a craft and also financially stable. It means that I am at my core happy.”
