Hollywood actor Alexander Skarsgard is proving popular on the Gold Coast

It isn’t every day that Gold Coast shoppers spot Tarzan unloading tinned tomatoes at the checkout, and they didn’t waste their opportunity.

IT isn’t every day that Queenslanders spot Tarzan unloading tinned tomatoes at the checkout.

That seemed to be the feeling among shoppers at Coles, Miami on the Gold Coast, who were caught sneakily photographing Hollywood star Alexander Skarsgard as he picked up groceries on Monday morning.

Photos surfaced on social media of the Swedish actor dressed unassumingly in sneakers, socks and shorts, loading his pasta and vegetables onto a checkout as staff and shoppers around him held up their phones.

Onlookers said Skarsgard, who starred opposite Gold Coaster Margot Robbie in 2016 film The Legend of Tarzan, responded with “go for it” when asked for a photo and said he was loving Australia.

But he was quick to make an exit when he noticed his visit had drawn attention.

It was Skarsgard’s second trip to the supermarket, having also stocked up on some vegemite last week.

He is on the Gold Coast to film his role in blockbuster action movie Godzilla vs Kong, a joint Warner Bros. and Legendary venture, which began filming at Village Roadshow Studios on Wednesday.

“We’re thrilled to be back on the Gold Coast with our next Monsterverse adventure,” producer Alex Garcia said in a statement yesterday.

“We had a wonderful experience here on Kong: Skull Island, and the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland has been a terrific resource in helping us leverage the region’s stunning landscapes, exceptional facilities and fantastic crews to achieve the scope we need for this epic next chapter in the saga.”

Cameras also rolled on ABC Studios International television series Reef Break yesterday.

Stars Poppy Montgomey and Desmond Chiam both shared photos from set by the beach to celebrate day one of filming.

The series, which will air on M6 in France and be distributed globally by Disney Media Distribution, revolves around Montgomery as a former thief now works as a “fixer” for the governor of a fictional island in the Pacific.

It is the second ABS Studios International production to be filmed in Queensland, having also commissioned Brisbane crime drama Harrow, which is currently filming its second season in the city.
