GOLD Coast Titans star Jarrod Wallace broke down in tears as he secretly tied the knot with his pregnant partner Courtney Thorpe in an intimate garden ceremony this month.
While they were planning a large wedding next year, Wallace told the former Miss World Australia about his desire to be married before she gives birth to their baby girl in September, and they spent six weeks secretly organising a small ceremony in the Benowa Botanical Gardens on the Gold Coast.
They exchanged their vows on May 10 in front of a dozen family members, including Wallace’s two daughters, Lara 6, and Peyton, 4, from a previous relationship.
“It was so emotional,” said Thorpe, who has changed her surname to Wallace privately but will keep her surname professionally.
“I was a bit unsure about it because I had spent my whole life dreaming about my wedding, but then I decided it would actually be so special to share that moment with each other and our family … and then we will still have our big wedding next year.”
Thorpe wore a champagne wrap dress from Australian brand Alamour The Label.
Wallace was in studio with Gold Coast’s 90.9Sea FM’s Heather, Dan & Ben for a regular segment on Monday when the radio hosts spotted the wedding ring on his left hand, which prompted him to reveal the pair’s under wraps nuptials.
“We did it because we are in love and we are having a baby,” Wallace said on air.
“Last time it was a little bit different, I had the girls I wasn’t married things like that and I just wanted to be real traditional. I wanted to be married with Court when we have our little girl in September. It was very small, intimate wedding. It was perfect.”
“I got through about the first line of the vows and I was a blubbering mess.”
Reading from the vows saved on his phone, he said: “From the moment I turned around and looked into your eyes and saw that smile I knew I was head over heels for you”.
Thorpe, a presenter on Channel 7’s The Great Day Out, announced their pregnancy in March, saying the couple had hoped to have a baby but had accepted it may not happen on their timeline when doctors suspected she could be suffering endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome.
It came after Wallace popped the question during a trip to Paris in October, just over a year after their first date in Brisbane in June, 2017.
The couple met when Wallace was appointed co-ambassador of a female betting app called BetFairy, which Thorpe was already aligned with.
