Filming on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s TV series Young Rock is set to move onto its third suburb around Brisbane in three days.
After filming scenes in Capalaba in the Redlands region and Strathpine, north of the city, production crews will today travel to Camp Hill in Brisbane’s eastern suburbs.
Excited residents have been informed filming will take place at The Tackle Warehouse on Old Cleveland Rd at Kismet St throughout Thursday afternoon, and will involve filming a car driving up to the building as well as scenes indoors.
The Rock’s personal gift to Young Rock cast
The Tackle Warehouse has been a family-owned Brisbane tackle retailer for the past 20 years and was formerly a Story Bridge toll booth.
Young Rock, an 11-part NBC comedy series, tells the story of Johnson’s formative years, and features three actors portraying him at different ages.
Streets in Strathpine were shut down on Wednesday as American actor Bradley Constant, who plays Johnson at 15, filmed scenes working at a pizzeria – which was stationed inside the local Carlos Naples Pizza Restaurant.
Locals watched on excitedly as vintage cars were brought into the suburb to replicate the 1980s, when Johnson went to high school in both Honolulu and Nashville.
Filming continued in Strathpine until close to 9pm on Wednesday.
On Tuesday the production team set up a temporary bus stop to film night time scenes near the Wicked Brew cafe in Capalaba in what was their first on-location shoot outside the Screen Queensland Studios in Hemmant, where the production is based.
Young Rock as well as two other NBC series have shifted to Brisbane from the US as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as generous filming grants and tax breaks offered by both the Queensland and Australian Governments.
Yesterday, Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles confirmed Johnson was not part of the filming cohort and had not arrived in Queensland.
“All cast and crew have completed 14 days quarantine in a hotel environment under a quarantine management plan approved by the Chief Health Officer,” he said.
