Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson has been spotted enjoying a trip to Hayman Island in the Whitsundays.

She landed in Australia on August 29 in the lead-up to the release of her memoir Elle last week, and seemed to be taking a post-release holiday.

Photos posted on stylist Nadene Duncan’s Instagram suggest that Macpherson, 60, was staying at the luxurious Hayman Estates with her fellow vacationers.

Macpherson has received backlash from the public and high-profile cancer survivors for opting for “an intuitive, heart-led, holistic approach” over modern medicine to treat her breast cancer seven years ago.

Macpherson’s memoir revealed the secret cancer battle and how she treated the HER2-positive oestrogen receptive intraductal carcinoma that doctors found in a lumpectomy in 2017.

She wrote about going against the recommendation of 32 doctors, opting out of a mastectomy and reconstruction, as well as radiation, chemotherapy and hormone therapy.

Macpherson told 60 Minutes’ Tracy Grimshaw on Sunday night: “I think if I have a choice of losing my life or losing my breasts, I think I would choose to lose the breasts.

“That was the alternative that I was given.”

Macpherson said she was now in remission, and her decision had been based on what had resonated with her for the last 20 years, denying it was a “vanity” choice.

“I had been really looking at the body in a holistic way, so looking at emotional, mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing,” she said.

Asked if she believed she had cured her cancer, Macpherson responded: “The word ‘cure’ is a very interesting word.

“No, I healed through breast cancer.

“I had a very formidable team that helped me through it.

“So now I would, you know I’m clinically in remission, that’s words that you know most doctors would say.”
