Brisbane hit105 breakfast host Stav Davidson opens up about ice addiction on air

A BRISBANE breakfast radio host has spoken about his past drug addiction for the first time, revealing he spent almost a year of his life on ice.

BRISBANE radio star Stav Davidson has opened up about his past battle with an ice addiction on air with his hit105 breakfast show for the first time.

Davidson, who co-host’s Stav, Abby and Matt with Osher, revealed on air on Thursday morning that he spent “nine months to a year” of his life addicted to methamphetamine before beginning his job at the station 13 years ago.

The presenter said he was managing a coffee shop at the time and was introduced to the drug by his pot (marijuana) dealer, who offered him a “freebie”.

“I was smoking pot quite regularly and I will never forgive this person for what he did, because I was naive at the time and he was the person I used to buy the pot off at the time and he said ‘I’ve got this other stuff — I’ve got too much of it, would you like some?’,” Davidson said.

He said after trying the drug he was “all in”.

“Because it’s one of the most addictive things in the world,” he said.

Davidson said he would even use before work in the morning as well as take the drug to the coffee shop with him.

He went on to reveal he stopped using after vomiting a litre of blood while on the job one day.

“I went out the back to the kitchen and I threw up in the sink - I threw up about a litre of blood and I remember thinking to myself ‘I can’t go to a doctor about this’,” he said.

“That just made me snap right out of it and I guess I’m really lucky in this situation because I know how hard it is for people, but I just stopped.

“That was it and I never went back, it just scared me straight I guess.”

Davidson was speaking as part of the show’s segment “Do you mind if I ask?”, which encourages listeners to phone in with questions. He admitted even his own family could have been hearing about it for the first time if they were tuning in.

While Davidson said his wife Kat knew about his history, he had also previously addressed it in a podcast with co-host Osher Gunsberg, who has been open about his own struggles with drugs, alcohol and mental illness.

Co-host Abby Coleman has also previously opened up on air about her demons, including a past addiction to prescription medication.
