Brisbane contestant in final two for MasterChef Australia

ANOTHER Ben from Brisbane has a chance to go down in reality TV history, making the final two for MasterChef Australia.

MasterChef contestant Sashi buckles under pressure

BRISBANE’S Ben Borsht will battle it out against Adelaide’s Sashi Cheliah in Tuesday night’s MasterChef Australia grand finale.

Borsht, 31, said he was “completely shocked” to make the top two of the Channel 10 reality cooking series, when Melbourne DJ Khanh Ong was sent home following a main and dessert challenge to cook for MasterChef alumni.

“It was a complete surprise to me — I never imagined getting as far as I have,” he said.

“You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face — I was just beaming and I was walking on sunshine for the next few days.”

Borsht and Cheliah will face a gruelling challenge set by legendary chef Heston Blumenthal in Tuesday night’s showdown.

The Queenslander said he knew Cheliah was a formidable presence in the kitchen.

“I’m always nervous going into anything, and you do get that thought playing in the back of your mind, do I really deserve to be here?” he said.

“But I was confident in my strengths.”

Borsht said the competition had not driven a wedge between the pair in the days leading up to the cook-off.

“I consider Sashi one of my brothers — we get along really well,” he said.

“We stuck together until the very end, and that’s what is so good about a competition like MasterChef - that great support and camaraderie.”

Borsht has copped some criticism on social media throughout the season, but said he wasn’t bothered by it.

“I don’t pay attention to the haters,” he said.

“There is one woman on my socials that gives me a slamming every day, and I have a laugh.

“I get a couple of bad, really nasty things, and then between 10 and 20 really nice, lovely comments.”
