BEN Roberts-Smith, VC, is poised to take the reins at Channel 7 in Queensland.
The war hero is general manager of the network’s regional service, Seven Queensland.
A network source claimed the ink was all but dry on the deal for Mr Roberts-Smith to take over as Seven Brisbane’s managing director.
“Ben’s takeover is pretty widely known within the network,” the source said.
“I think it is just a matter of figuring out the details and timing.”
Mr Roberts-Smith is a favourite among the network’s high-ranking executives.
Outgoing managing director Max Walters has even given him the tick of approval.
LEGEND: Keeping the ANZAC legacy alive
A spokeswoman for Channel 7 said no decision had been made about Mr Walters’ replacement at this point in time.
Mr Roberts-Smith has held several roles at the Seven network, which he joined in 2012.
He won his Victoria Cross, the highest military award for conspicuous bravery, while serving in Afghanistan in 2010.
Mr Roberts-Smith had previously won a Medal of Gallantry while serving in the country in 2006.
The two medals make him Australia’s most decorated soldier.
He left the army in 2013 to study for an MBA but remains part of the Reserve Forces.
Mr Roberts-Smith is also chairman of the National Australia Day Council, works for charity and gives motivational speeches.
