Amy Shark set to wow fans ahead of Origin III

AMY Shark says her parents are more excited for her pre-match tribute ahead of Origin III than they are for any American late-night show appearance.

AMY Shark needed a small change, despite her growing success, and she did it with Christian Dior.

In the past year, the Gold Coast singer-songwriter has won two ARIA awards and an APRA award, became the first Australian Apple Music “Up Next” Artist, appeared on two late-night talk shows in the US and on Friday she will finally release her debut album Love Monster.

While the 32-year-old is well known for her laid-back style, Shark said she did take a moment to treat herself.

“I did buy a Christian Dior bag. It’s my big spend so far. We were on Rodeo Drive (in Los Angeles) and I had this old backpack I’d been travelling with for ages and I thought ‘no, I’m going to buy a nice one’.”

While she said that she was constantly being prompted by music executives to move to the US, Shark said it was Queensland fans who kept her based in Australia.

Ahead of the release of her album, Shark is performing during a special pre-match tribute ahead of State of Origin III at Suncorp Stadium tonight.

“Being a Queenslander, State of Origin has been a big deal in my family since I can remember. I’m pretty sure my parents are more excited for this than they are for any American late-night show I’m on,” Shark said.

“Every now and then there will be someone who comes up to me and says ‘oh we love your music’ and ‘we are so proud of you’ and it’s such a warm feeling, honestly, and I think that’s why I’ll probably stay on the Gold Coast,” she said.

“It’s been tempting (to move) and I might spend a year or two in America, but we are living in a world where you don’t really have to.”

Shark will perform at two Queensland in-store appearances next week, appearing at Queen Street Mall on Tuesday and Robina Town Centre on Thursday. She will tour Brisbane and the Gold Coast from September 6-8.
