Rebel Wilson criticised for attending a party shortly after welcoming daughter

Rebel Wilson’s Instagram followers were quick to criticise the star for attending a party a few days after announcing the birth of her first child.

Rebel Wilson has been the target of online backlash after footage of her at an event emerged shortly after welcoming her first child via surrogate.

In a since-deleted post, the actress, 42, filmed herself hitting the dancefloor at a soiree thrown by Paris Hilton over the weekend, with fiancee Ramona Agruma by her side, 7News reports.

But while the new mum looked to be letting her hair down for the night, fans were divided over her choice to leave her newborn so soon after her birth.

Her daughter, Royce Lillian, was born via surrogate in early November, with the star telling fans on November 8 she was “a beautiful miracle”, and thanking her “gorgeous surrogate”.

“I am ready to give little Roycie all the love imaginable. I am learning quickly … much respect to all the Mums out there! Proud to be in your club,” she wrote beneath a sweet photo of the baby.

But while fans were thrilled by the news last week, her latest Instagram activity had quite a different response.

Over the weekend, Wilson and Agruma attended a celebration for Paris Hilton’s virtual realm “Paris World” in Santa Monica, with Wilson posting on Instagram, “Total Sliving last night! Congrats Paris Hilton,” according to the Daily Mail.

The clip, which has since been removed, prompted instant criticism, 7News reports, with one follower writing: “I sure as heck wouldn’t have left my newborn to go partying the week she was born! Whether I had birthed her myself or not is irrelevant!”

“I think she may regret this post in a few weeks/ month’s time,” a second weighed in, calling it “strange”.

“She can do whatever she wants, as can any mum, but it does seem a little odd that a week after a baby that she longed for (for) so long arrives and she’s out partying.

“Even if it was for an hour or so, it still seems a bit strange.”

Another called Wilson “senseless” over the move, according to the publication.

“Ummm sorry?!? Didn’t you just get given a baby this week so confused right now. This is the most important time to bond with your baby, not party. Seriously these senseless celebs,.”

Others, however, jumped to defend the Pitch Perfect actress, asserting that “mothers are allowed to have time to themselves too”.

“Are mothers not allowed to let their hair down? Are mothers not allowed to take a break for their own self, their own soul? None of us have any idea what is going on in Rebel’s life so don’t think for one second that you have any right to judge,” one said.

“There are PLENTY of women who go out, without their baby, early on in parenthood,” a second said.

“Sure, not everyone can or even wants to, but there are many who do.

“Why do people have to make such a big deal about it? Life doesn’t end when you have children.”

Another shared their hope that Wilson’s move would “normalise new mums taking an hour or two for themselves”.

Wilson recently opened up about her infertility struggles in a candid interview with People.

The actress said she was “devastated” when she received the news that the eggs she had harvested “had not survived being thawed.”

“So I’d lost a huge amount of weight and been through 3 surgeries at that point and no viable embryos,” she continued. “It was devastating.”

Following the news of Royce’s birth, she told the publication that holding her child for the first time was “overwhelming and exciting.”

Back in May, Wilson revealed that she embarked on her 2020 health journey in the hopes of becoming a mother after a fertility doctor had told her she would have a better chance of harvesting her eggs.

“I thought, ‘Oh God, this guy’s so rude’,” she told People.

“He was right. I was carrying around a lot of excess weight. It’s almost like I didn’t think of my own needs. I thought of a future child’s needs that really inspired me to get healthier,” she explained.
