The Australian wife of Oscar winner Sean Penn has been spotted back in Sydney.
Actress Leila George is back in her hometown seemingly for the Christmas holidays, bringing a touch of understated Hollywood glam to the coastal suburb of Coogee.
The 32-year-old appeared relaxed as she strolled on the Coogee Beach promenade wearing a striped shirt and linen drawstring pants over her bikini, while toting her towel in a straw beach bag.
The actress – who recently starred in the sexy Apple TV+ series Disclaimer – may be unrecognisable on this outing, but with her connections in Hollywood, she has a pretty big standing in showbusiness.
George is the daughter of Australian-Italian actress Greta Scacchi, who has starred on hit movies such as Emma opposite Gwyneth Paltrow, Presumed Innocent on which she played Harrison Ford’s love interest, and she also starred in the beloved Aussie film Looking for Alibrandi.
Meanwhile, her father is also veteran American actor Vincent D’Onofrio, who is best known for his starring role as Detective Robert Goren in the long-running crime drama Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
D’Onofrio was in a relationship with Scacchi in the 1990s and they welcomed George in 1992 but split soon after.
George’s love-life has also made headlines in recent years. The Animal Kingdom star was married to Penn, 64, before they split just one year later.
The pair began dating in 2016 before they secretly wed in 2020 in a hush-hush ceremony during Covid.
“We did a Covid wedding,” Penn said on Late Night With Seth Meyers a few days after the wedding.
“By that, I mean it was a county commissioner on Zoom and we were at the house, my two children and her brother, and we did it that way.”
Sadly, George filed for divorce the following year, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason behind their break-up.
Penn would go on to say he regretted their split, taking full accountability for the demise of their marriage.
“There’s a woman who I’m so in love with, Leila George, who I only see on a day-to-day basis now, because I f**ked up the marriage,” he said in an interview with Hollywood Authentic in 2022.
“We were married technically for one year, but for five years, I was a very neglectful guy.”
George was Penn’s third wife – he was previously married to pop legend Madonna and Robin Wright, who is the mother of his daughter Dylan Frances Penn, 33, and son Hopper Jack Penn, 31.
Before his marriage to the Aussie star, he was in a two-year relationship with actress Charlize Theron, which ended in 2015.
As for George, she has been linked to her Animal Kingdom co-star Ben Robson, 40, since early 2023. In January 2024, they were seen holidaying in Australia, with the couple catching some sun and surf at a Sydney beach.
