Michael Buble promised his Brisbane fans a “religious experience”, and on Tuesday night at the Entertainment Centre he delivered.
Six months after a postponement due to logistic nightmares, the Canadian superstar made his triumphant return to the stage in Brisbane.
Accompanied by his dynamic 20-plus piece orchestra, the five-time Grammy winner delivered a performance that managed to simultaneously celebrate life, show off his impressive dance repertoire and highlight his signature velvety vocals, all while making his fans swoon.
“This is not a show or a concert, this is a religious experience,” he told the crowd. “Tonight this is going to be a celebration of life.”
Looking every inch the classic showman in a sharp charcoal grey suit, the 47-year old didn’t merely perform. From the moment he emerged onto the stage, amid a series of pyrotechnics, he made love to the crowd, filling the arena with laughter, stories, and more than a few blush-worthy quips.
His wit, charm and cheekiness were as apparent as ever as he declared to the thrilled crowd, “Get yourself stretched up because you guys are doing this with me – shake those little asses for me”.
With the crowd on its feet from the opening number Feeling Good, to the fans in the ”mosh pit” area mimicking the energy usually reserved for artists like Harry Styles (despite it being a seated event) there was no denying that Bublé still holds the power to mesmerise.
It wasn‘t just the showmanship that made the night exceptional; it was the connection he forged with his fans. Whether bantering in a spot-on Aussie accent, fetching beers for an audience member or dedicating songs to his new-found mate ’Jeff’ in the front row, this wasn’t just a concert – it was a communal experience.
The jokes, stories, and interactions with the audience added a level of intimacy rarely seen at events of this scale.
As for the music, Bublé‘s hit parade was in full swing, with classics like Haven’t Met You Yet, Sway, Home and Everything” all on display.
His effortless blend of originals and covers left the crowd simultaneously swooning and singing along, while his stripped-back rendition of Nat King Cole’s Smile showcased Bublé’s powerful vocal range in a truly poignant moment.
A rock star tribute to Elvis Presley also gave the audience a taste of Bublé’s versatility, reminding us of his dedication to keeping the flame of iconic music alive.
And speaking of keeping things alive, he cheekily suggested that Brisbane’s population was due for a significant boost in nine months, thanks to the charged atmosphere and romantic vibes of the night.
“I don’t know what’s the population of Brisbane but I tell you in nine months’ time it’s going to be double,” he said.
“You’re going to go home tonight and make ‘bubl-abies’”.
Yet, what truly made this concert remarkable was the infectious joy that radiated from Bublé throughout the evening. Backed by his dynamic orchestra, he filled the arena with a blend of charm, wit, and classic big band swag, creating an electrifying atmosphere that turned the evening into a fun celebration.
As Bublé disappeared into the stage floor at the end of the night – Aussie flag draped over his shoulder – his parting words, “I’ll miss you until I see you again,” left a promise hanging in the air.
A promise of more laughter, more music, more love, and more unforgettable moments. And judging by the ecstatic response of his Brisbane fans, there‘s no doubt that they’re eagerly waiting for the day that promise is fulfilled.
After two decades of touring, Bublé still has the magic touch – leaving audiences thoroughly wowed and craving more.
