Our intrepid reporters have put their bodies on the line to road-test one of the scariest rides at this year’s Ekka. SEE VIDEO

Testing out the Ekka's scariest ride

Ensuring Brisbane Ekka thrillseekers get their adrenaline hit year after year is no easy task, but the show is ready to keep attendees screaming.

Ekka 2024 is introducing the Phoenix, on which riders can rise from the ashes and spin, swing, and rock for a high speed thrill.

Liv Gregson, 19 of Albion, will come to the show with friend Matisse Weeks, 17 of Yeronga, who has been every year of her life.

“I do competitive showjumping as well, so I’m not just riding in Sideshow Alley, I’ve been coming to show with horses forever,” Ms Weeks said.

For Ms Gregson, it will only be her second Ekka, and she has a shared love with Ms Weeks for the extreme thrill rides.

“I had such a good time last year, we love the thrill of it and I always used to go to theme parks with my dad so I’ve always loved the speed and all of that,” she said.

They both said they would be sure to take advantage of the two-for-one rides each morning of the show, an offer reintroduced after last year’s success and their focus on affordability.

After the Phoenix they said the Joker ride would be next on their list, with 360-degree rotations 25m in the air.
