South Burnett's top NAPLAN schools revealed

SCHOOL communities across the South Burnett have been eagerly awaiting the results of this year's NAPLAN test to see where they rank in the region.

Students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 took part in the controversial nationwide standardised test in May.

The test is designed to measure students in literacy and numeracy and track progress.

 Year 3 and Year 5 students at St John's Lutheran School, Kingaroy got an average NAPLAN score of 4537 - the area's top performing primary school and 412th in the state.

The second best performing primary schools was Nanango State School where the average result was 4283 for Year 3 and Year 5 students and the school was ranked  673rd in the state. 

The third best performing primary school was Taabinga State School (ranked 736th in the state)  where the schoolwide average score was 4199.

St John's Lutheran School, Kingaroy  was South Burnett's top performing high school. There Year 7 and Year 9 students received an average NAPLAN score of 5521.

St John's high school results also came in at 208th statewide.

The second best performing high school was Saint Mary's Catholic College (ranked 221st), South Burnett where the average score was 5493, while the third best performing school was Burnett State College where the average score was 5412.

The NAPLAN test remains controversial with the Queensland Government calling for a national review into the test.

Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority CEO David de Carvalho said more than 50,000 students nationally re-sat the test after interruptions in the online test. 

About half of all schools accessed the test online in May and ACARA plans for all students to take the test online next year.
