New pop-up locations as state announces Super Schools weekend

Schools across the state will be opening up as vaccine hubs this weekend in an effort to boost the state’s jab rate as more than 900,000 Queenslanders are yet to get their first dose. SEE THE LIST

Jabs will be offered at more schools this weekend to further boost the state’s vaccination rate ahead of the borders reopening.

At least 67 schools including Kelvin Grove State College, Home Hill State High School and Hervey Bay State High School will throw open their gates this Saturday.

It comes after 58 schools opened last weekend.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Super Schools weekend was about bringing the vaccine closer to people.

“We know a lot of people still have questions,” she said.

“All I ask is that they talk to trusted professionals like their GP or pharmacist or the health staff at our vaccination clinics.

“I am sure that they can put their minds at rest.”

Health Minster Yvette D’Ath said more than 900,000 Queenslanders aged 12 years or older were yet to receive their first dose.

“With borders set to open in just over a month, people who haven’t been vaccinated yet need to come forward now,” she said.

“Make getting your Covid-19 vaccination a priority this weekend.”

Education Minister Grace Grace said the school clinics had been very successful.

“Every person who gets vaccinated helps decrease the spread of Covid-19, as well as protect their families, friends, and community,” she said.

Gordonvale State High School, Calliope State High School, Nerang State High School, Finch Hatton State School, Mackay State High School and Forest Lake State High School are also among the 67 schools.

The list is expected to grow throughout the week.
