Regulars at a popular cafe in Indooroopilly Shopping Centre are fighting to keep the doors open after it was revealed it would soon be closing after almost a decade.
Jamaica Blue Cafe has become a “haven” for shoppers throughout its nine years in the shopping centre, but this Friday, the cafe will close for good, according to regular Susie Meg.
“That place is a haven for so many people, including myself. I see so many people, regulars, who make Jammie (sic) Blue a hub of the community,” she said.
“That’s because Shane, Linda (the owners) and the wonderful staff give their customers their hearts.”
Regulars have turned to social media to express their sadness over the imminent closure.
“They’re always been impeccable hosts and I feel terrible for them,” one wrote.
“That’s so sad for them. They were always so friendly too,” another said.
It’s understood the closure has to do with issues regarding a lease renewal, and that negotiations have been ongoing for weeks.
A spokesman for Indooroopilly Shopping Centre said the team was “unable to reach a commercial agreement” with the cafe.
“Unfortunately, we have been unable to reach a commercial agreement regarding the lease of this tenancy. We want to thank the team at Jamaica Blue for being part of the centre and wish them the best,” he said.
It’s believed the shop will now close this Friday, however the spokesman was not able to say what will happen with the vacant space.
