The $9m expansion of a renowned South East Queensland hotel will create up to 150 new jobs when it is unveiled to the public next year.

The newly renovated Belvedere Hotel – which has been on the same Woody Point site on the Redcliffe Peninsula more 120 years – will feature a cafe and brand new sports bar and gaming area.

Two new bars were also being built, one of them being a first level lounge and bar area that will sport 180-degree views of the sunset and water, ideal for twilight dining.

Lewis Land Group regional manager Chris Allison said they planned to open the renovated space in August 2023.

“In the meantime, our pavilion bar and bistro remain open, so our locals can continue to enjoy the pub,” he said.

Mr Allison said the extra facilities will bump staff levels up from around 100 to about 250 when the hotel is fully open, and workers will be needed in positions ranging from management to bar, floor and kitchen staff.

“We’re getting the message out there that we are going to need a lot more staff come this time next year,” he said.

“It’s a competitive landscape out there and we need to be proactive and look after them when we get them.”

Lewis Land Corporation bought the hotel in 2002 and completed a $2m refurbishment in 2016. It also completed a $3m renovation on the Komo Hotel on the Peninsula last year.

“The Belvedere is a historic pub and one of the biggest core trade venues in Queensland and we rival the Breakfast Creek with its Monday to Sunday F & B (food and beverage) offering,” Mr Allison said.

“It’s a Peninsula institution. We purchased the Komo Hotel two and a bit years ago and refurbished that and that’s going spectacularly well.

“So we see great demand in the area and we will go from 850 seats at the Belvedere to about 1150 to 1200 seats to cater for that.”

The Rohrig Group will build the expansion which was designed by KP Architects which also planned the Komo renovation.

“We’re delighted to be able to give our locals the best possible pub experience at our venues,” Mr Allison said.

“Ensuring our venues are given the refresh they need to answer to the changing needs of our local communities is a top priority for us.”
