Sprawling landscaping is starting to take shape at Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky’s Byron Bay mega-mansion.
As building continues on one of Australia’s most talked-about and controversial projects, new photos reveal the celebrity couple are sparing no expense designing the lush surrounds of their shopping centre sized home.
The latest shots to showcase progress on “Fort Hemsworth” since it was last snapped in February show wave-shaped landscaping dotted with towering palm trees.
A 50m rooftop infinity pool and spa with ocean views has started to take more shape at the hinterland hideaway the couple splashed out $7 million for in 2014. They have since spent millions more renovating it.
Construction began in late 2017 after the demolition of the existing eight-bedroom Balinese-style resort home.
Nestled on 4.2 hectares in the hills at Broken Head overlooking Seven Mile Beach, the massive new structure, which features six bedrooms, a gym, steam room, media room, games room and vast outdoor living and play areas, is expected to be worth close to $20 million when complete.
Locals have labelled it “obscene, greedy, flashy and vulgar” and said the once hippie haven of Byron Bay was becoming too Hollywood.

But real estate experts have said the celebrity drawcard was having a positive impact on the area.
“There’s definitely jobs being created, but it does seem to be that the area is attracting not just national attention but also international attention as well because there’s a lot of celebrity interest, particularly from the Hemsworths,” Realestate.com.au chief economist Nerida Conisbee told news.com.au earlier this year.,
Byron Bay has played host to a number of celebrities on holidays, including Matt Damon and Natalie Portman.
Every time the Hemsworth clan flash their bodies or give unsuspecting hitchhikers rides in their helicopter, photos of the picturesque region are beamed all over the world.

In an interview with GQ Australia last year, the Avengers star spoke about growing up “broke” in rural Victoria and how he and Pataky were working to make sure their kids had an appreciation for money.
Hemsworth used his first big pay cheque to pay off his parents’ mortgage, and when asked by GQ how he felt about what his wealth could do to his kids, the Thor star said he “felt gross about it”.
“I remember saving up for a surfboard when I was younger. The surfboard was 600 bucks, and I saved up for a whole year with dad’s help. I didn’t even want to surf on it for fear of damaging it. It taught me so many lessons about appreciation and working hard for something,” he said.
“When I think about my kids, I don’t want them to miss that joy. The fact that we have money and their parents are famous, that somehow they’re special, that scares me because we grew up with no money.”
