The owners of Monopoly want to create a Sunshine Coast edition of the popular board game

One of the world’s most recognisable board games is aiming to produce an edition based on a Queensland tourism hot spot, and has appealed to locals for their input.

After years of local demand, the first-ever Monopoly: Sunshine Coast Edition is set to launch in 2025.

The popularity of 2018’s Monopoly: Gold Coast Edition, along with the success of the recent Monopoly: Gympie Edition made it a no-brainer to roll the dice next on the Sunshine Coast.

Starting today, Winning Moves, under license from Hasbro, a leading toy and game company, will be working with residents, local council and businesses to build a custom-made game feature the landmarks of the region.

Will it be the newly opened Big Pineapple that will take the top spot or a local and tourist favourite of Eumundi Markets?

Winning Moves representatives Jaimie-Lee de Niet says locals can now submit their suggestions that they want to see featured within the edition, which first hit the board in 1935 with the Racecar, Thimble, Boot, Top Hat, and Battleship among the original set of Monopoly tokens.

“We’ve been getting requests for years to create a Sunshine Coast board, so it’s been on our radar for a long time,” she says.

“With these requests, we always tell people good things come to those who wait, and that certainly rings true for the upcoming Sunny Coast edition.

“It’s such a vast location with so many pockets and hidden gems. We can’t wait to work with locals to uncover all the best of the area and design a game that can be played by folks near and far who love the region.”

Start-up sale

Andrea Murray and Nikki Fuller joined forces a few years ago to revolutionise the way landlords and commercial leasing agents do business.

With a background in office leasing, the pair, who each had their first children while working on their project, have sold their “other baby” Spek Technologies to multi-investment, crypto-asset financial services group Monochrome Corporation.

Spek’s platform simplifies administrative processes, improving efficiency and data accuracy and Monochrome said the acquisition supports its strategy to invest in technology that

streamlines operations for financial institutions, particularly those managing crypto investments.

Before going live on August 1 last year Spek had a successful capital rise and appointed former Flight Centre Travel Group and Travelex high-flyer Dion Jensen as the company’s chief executive.

Murray says they were very happy with the sale. “We’re so excited. When you start something like this you have an open mind about an exit strategy but we didn’t expect it so soon,” she says.

Expansion

Place Estate Agents’s ambitious plans to more than double its footprint over the next eight years has kicked off with the opening of Place Redcliffe Peninsula, following on from the opening of Place Cleveland just two months ago.

Place has been around for 22 years and earlier this year chief executive Damian Hackett announced they were seeking an additional 19 franchise agencies in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, and Moreton Bay regions in the next eight years.

The Moreton Bay Region office is led by Jess Culling and Hackett says she and her team “exemplify the values we cherish at Place”.

“We’re excited to introduce our unique approach to real estate in this dynamic growth region,” he says.

“This expansion marks a pivotal step in our strategic 2032 business plan, which aims to establish new offices in key locations across the region.”

Place Cleveland is led by Emma Miller.
