WE have no doubt Tattersall’s Club president Stuart Fraser will be fuming at the latest leak out of the Brisbane institution.

He dispatched an “urgent message to members’’ this week about “unauthorised media briefings’’—and, of course, the email immediately landed in City Beat’s in-tray!

Fraser was irate about a story reporting that club members at Thursday’s general meeting are likely to once again debate whether to allow women to join the male-only bastion.

There may even be a motion to change the constitution of the 153-year-old club.

“The club is aware of a small group of members who are regularly leaking commentary to the media,’’ Fraser noted.

“An article on Tattersall’s in The Courier-Mail this week was the result of these members briefing the journalist with the same erroneous statements and claims vented through their other channels.’’

Fraser didn’t elaborate on what he considered “erroneous’’ but we have a pretty good idea it relates to club finances, which are understood to be somewhat shaky despite $1 million net profit last year.

Elsewhere, Fraser weighed in on two other issues which are indicative of the internal strife roiling the club.

He warned that anonymous websites are inviting members to provide their personal details to access a platform critical of the club.

“The inaccuracy of the information on this site suggests the authors do not have the club’s interests at heart and may not even be members,’’ Fraser cautioned.

Members have also complained in recent weeks about getting “aggressive’’ unsolicited calls and emails from those opposed to allowing females to join, he said.
