Veteran halfback Adam Reynolds has injured a hamstring while playing a key role in setting up Brisbane’s 46-24 thrashing of Wests Tigers.

The Broncos captain scored a superb solo try with a chip and chase to give his side a 26-16 lead in the 45th minute at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday. It was immediately after landing the conversion that he signalled to the bench that he needed to come off after tweaking a hamstring while kicking the goal.

The match was in the balance when Wests led 12-6 late in the first half before the Broncos clicked into gear.

The Brisbane halves pairing of Ben Hunt and Reynolds had played 594 games of first grade more than their opposite duo Lachlan Galvin and Latu Fainu, an all-time premiership record.
Galvin, 19, was outstanding for the visitors with his short kicking game crucial in giving the Tigers the lead. It was the boot of Reynolds, combined with a hint of genius, that proved telling in the final result.

A Hunt 40/20 was also crucial in gaining Brisbane possession in the second half before the Broncos cut loose.

Fainu’s night was cut short in the 49th minute due to a failed HIA.

Galvin’s response to Hunt’s initial try assist was impressive. His pinpoint grubber put fellow teenager Luke Laulilii over for a try.

Tigers winger Sunia Turuva then scored after fullback Jahream Bula went on a 55m run. The Tigers attack then cashed in when centre Starford To’a burnt opposite number Gehamat Shibasaki to make it 12-6.

Reynolds landed a 42 metre two-point field goal for the hosts for a 14-12 lead at the break, but it was tries by Xavier Willison either side of halftime that really hurt the Tigers.

The crowd of 41, 011 was a Brisbane club record for a match against Wests Tigers.

The stats after 80 minutes

Broncos win big in Brisbane

That’s full-time at Suncorp Stadium, where the Broncos ran away with a convincing enough win against the Tigers.

Not exactly the defensive display from either team that their coaches would have wanted, but after a shaky start from Brisbane, the team managed to pull it together for a big victory.

A dramatic ending with Staford To’A sent to the sin bin with 10 seconds left on the clock, to give Brisbane a 22-point victory.

To’a gets a double

A nice little link-up with Adam Doueihi and Starford To’a, who add to the Tigers tally as full-time approaches.

Too little too late, but a nice double for the Tigers centre.

Broncos close in on 50 after Shibasaki scores

We’re down to the final 10 minutes, and the Broncos have cracked the 40s.

Reece Walsh puts the kick up high at the end of the set, Jaiyden Hunt takes the ball and passes the ball one-handed out to Gehamat Shibasaki to score.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Broncos crack 50 before full-time, which is disappointing considering how competitive the Tigers were in the first 50 minutes of the match.

No try for Tigers after Hunt crashes over

The Tigers probably won’t win this contest, but they aren’t giving up the fight.

Api Koroisau hands the ball back to Royce Hunt on the inside, and Payne Haas, Pat Carrigan and Reece Walsh can’t stop him.

The bunker intervenes though, and takes the try away, after a review shows that Fonua Pole helps push Hunt across the line.

Either way, this is great determination from the Tigers, who have a relentlessness about them that’s lacked the past few years.

Tigers left behind as Walters adds to Broncos tally

The points are flowing freely now, as the Broncos run 100 metres in the set and Billy Walters scores.

Kotoni Staggs gets the ball to Selwyn Cobbo on the right edge, and he takes off down the field. Walters is there in support, and Cobbo offloads to his teammate when Jahream Bula comes across to cover.

Arthars scores a double as Broncos crack 30

There’s still plenty of time left in this contest, but the Broncos have just hit 30 points.

A Reece Walsh pass across three players, and Jesse Arthars is across for his second try of the night.

That’s seven tries for the season for Arthars, which makes him the leading try scorer this season.

Walsh takes over kicking duties with Reynolds injured, and he slots it over soundly.

Sione Fainu scores for Tigers, Latu and Reynolds ruled out with injuries

Don’t count the Tigers out just yet.

A goal line dropout and a repeat set have the Tigers up in the Broncos face, and Sione Fainu surges 12 metres through Xavier Willison, Reece Walsh, Corey Jensen and Jack Gosiewski to score.

Api Koroisau converts from in front to make the difference eight points.

Update on Latu Fainu – he has been deemed as showing category one concussion symptoms which means he will not return tonight.

Adam Reynolds will also not return after suffering a hamstring injury during a conversion attempt.

Tigers No. 7 off for HIA

Another halfback injury, this time with Latu Fainu going off for a head injury assessment after his head collided with Kotoni Staggs’ hip.

Royce Hunt comes into the contest for Fainu, and Api Koroisau is back on the field too.
