Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has thanked the NSW government for a waterbombing aircraft that helped save the border town of Wallangarra.
Delivering a bushfire update on Tuesday afternoon, Palaszczuk said the “outstanding work” of firefighters from both states had shielded Wallangarra from the worst.

“The fire is now going around the town, so the town has been saved,” Palaszczuk said.
More than 1,000 firefighters have been dealing with 80 bushfires across Queensland, the worst being along the border, at Tara (west of Toowoomba), and at Goodwood (west of Bundaberg).
Residents who evacuated Wallangarra were urged to delay their return, while at 5.20pm the residents of nearby Dalveen were advised to leave immediately due to an imminent threat.
