Hundreds of people in the Brisbane suburb of Camp Hill were left without power – and air-conditioning – during Monday’s hot night.
But Energy Minister Mick de Brenni has emphasised the outage was not because of a lack of supply or the state of the electricity distribution network.
“The outages in Camp Hill which affected 450 people earlier in the week have nothing to do with the age of the poles or wires in that street,” the minister told journalists on Wednesday.
Instead, de Brenni said, it was likely that unforeseen home renovations, new pools and additional air-conditioning added to the “level of pressure applied to the system because of the heatwave”.
Energex engineers were investigating the issue and “they have worked hard to rebalance that load,” he said.
