Eltham Hotel

Modern Australian$$$

How can one establishment excel at so much? The pub itself is a cracker: historic without being decrepit; homely with no whiff of quaint; and trendy but not self-conscious, with a warm and happy atmosphere. Garlic bread arrives quickly and is good, although the roasted topping took a bit of getting used to. The scotch fillet with chips and vegies is a triumph, and the sun-dried tomato, mascarpone and lemon thyme chicken keeps the mouth watering until the plate is almost licked clean. To finish: a generous serve of apple and macadamia crumble cake with ice-cream and creme anglaise.
