New Zealand authorities have begged anguished families for patience before the bodies of loved ones who killed in the White Island volcano disaster can be released, as fresh tremors continue to be observed.

It was confirmed last night a sixth person had died after Monday's eruption, succumbing to severe burn in hospital.
