New Zealand ‘blindsided’ by Cook Islands-China deal

Wellington | New Zealand’s prime minister expressed mounting concerns on Monday as the Cook Islands’ leader travels to China this week to sign agreements without properly consulting Wellington, despite the two nations’ constitutional ties.

New Zealand, along with Australia and the United States, have become increasingly concerned about China’s growing presence in the Pacific region and the threat it poses to regional security.
