Trade Minister Don Farrell has lashed Donald Trump’s doubling of tariffs on Australian steel and aluminium exports as an unfriendly act, with pressure mounting on Anthony Albanese to push the case for their removal when he meets the president next month.
Trump on Saturday announced plans to increase tariffs on imports of steel from 25 to 50 per cent to “further secure the steel industry in the United States”, unbowed by a court ruling this week that tried to put a handbrake on his global trade war.
