The Pentagon’s AUKUS sceptic is ‘pissing everybody off’

Defence under-secretary Elbridge Colby’s rigid view of foreign policy, and the steps he believes the US must take, have started to ruffle some feathers in Washington.

Washington | News last month that the Pentagon was reviewing the AUKUS submarine pact came as a surprise to many in the Australian and American defence world, even if the Albanese government brushed it off as a natural step for an incoming administration.

Although the review seemingly put Australia’s $368 billion pathway to building and owning nuclear-powered submarines in to question, supporters of AUKUS took some comfort from the fact it was not an edict from US President Donald Trump himself.
