Washington | Australia and the new Trump administration are canvassing strengthening the Quad security talks to include surveillance and other defence technology, Foreign Minister Penny Wong says, as the allies seek to check Chinese influence in the Indo-Pacific.

Senator Wong met new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT) along with other foreign ministers from the group that includes Japan and India. She then met separately with Mr Rubio, who was sworn into Donald Trump’s new cabinet overnight.
