This week, Harley-Davidson and Jack Daniel’s whiskey maker Brown-Forman became the latest US companies to drop their diversity efforts after being targeted by right-wing commentator Robby Starbuck.

Since early June, Starbuck has been “exposing” companies whose diversity and sustainability commitments he says are out of alignment with their customer base. Fashioning himself as some kind of conservative muckraker, he inundates his followers on social media with explainers about the “injection of wokeness” into corporate America.
