This 30-year-old Aussie is driving a US union resurgence

New York | It was during an overnight picket in snowy Scranton, Pennsylvania, that Australian union organiser Lawrence Ben found himself shoeless and shivering in the service of workers.
The 30-year-old, Adelaide-born acting political director for the New York-based Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) had been assigned the graveyard shift outside a nursing home during a campaign for better pay and conditions for staff.
