Washington | Republican US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST) a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden over his family’s business dealings, deepening the country’s political turmoil in the run-up to next year’s election.
Mr McCarthy said there were now credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct during his term as vice president from 2009 to 2017 that “paint a picture of a culture of corruption”. The decision follows months of investigations by the Republican-controlled House Oversight Committee.
