AUKUS nuclear subs pass key US hurdle

Washington | A powerful US Senate committee has signed off on the transfer of nuclear-powered submarines to Australia by approving legislation that grants Australia a rare 20-year exemption from strict export rules.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee backed an amendment in legislation on annual US military spending that would give the green light to selling three American Virginia class nuclear-powered submarines to Australia.
