New York| Thousands of people flocked to New York’s Ground Zero to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, in what has become a growing celebration of America’s resilience and unity rather than a day reserved for mourning the 2983 lives lost in the tragedy.

Pubs and restaurants spilled over and bagpipes echoed across Manhattan as dozens of ceremonies took place, including Australia’s with its ambassadors and stunning operatic performances.
