Scrutiny on visas for Gazans after Palestinian placed in detention

A Palestinian offered temporary safe haven in Australia has been put in immigration detention, sparking fresh scrutiny of the adequacy of the Albanese government’s security checks for those fleeing Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

Appearing before a Senate estimates hearing on Monday, Home Affairs Department officials revealed the person had failed the character test and been taken into detention after September 18.
