Norway, Ireland, Spain recognise Palestinian state in ‘historic’ move
Barcelona | Norway, Ireland and Spain said on Wednesday they would recognise a Palestinian state in a simultaneous move that drew condemnation from Israel and jubilation from the Palestinians. A furious Israel ordered back its ambassadors from Norway and Ireland.
Although scores of countries have recognised Palestinian statehood, the lightning cascade of announcements carries weight amid growing concern over Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, and because most Western European countries have resisted recognising it so far.
