Australia pleases no one after abstaining on anti-Israel vote
The Albanese government has angered pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian lobby groups after abstaining on a United Nations vote demanding Israel end its occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
As Peter Dutton accused the government of damaging relations with both Israel and the US over the vote, Foreign Minister Penny Wong said she was “disappointed” Australia could not support the resolution because it did not more accurately reflect an International Court of Justice opinion that the 57-year-long occupation was illegal.
