Austin calls for calm after attacks on Iran-backed targets

Beirut/Jerusalem | US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin on Wednesday dismissed the idea that a wider war in the Middle East was inevitable, saying his country was seeking to cool rising regional tensions.
“I don’t think war is inevitable. I maintain that. I think there’s always room and opportunities for diplomacy,” Mr Austin told reporters during a visit to the Philippines.
