Israel’s president urges Albanese to visit amid tensions

Jerusalem/Canberra | Anthony Albanese is under pressure to accept Israel President Isaac Herzog’s invitation to visit the Jewish state after the prime minister sharpened criticism of its conduct of the war in Gaza.

Jewish groups and the opposition said a visit to Israel by Albanese would help rebuild bilateral ties and show support for a fellow democracy. Albanese’s office declined to comment on whether he was considering the invite. No ministerial visits to Israel are imminent.
