Iran’s election pits reformist against ultra-hardliner
Dubai | Iran’s presidential election is headed for a runoff between an arch-conservative and a pro-reform candidate, after none of the contenders secured a majority of the votes, the Ministry of Interior said on the weekend.
Reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian came out on top, followed by hardliner Saeed Jalili, a former chief nuclear negotiator, whose support among conservatives was split with the third-place candidate, parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
