UK Labour budget smashes record for highest tax take in modern history
London | Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s new Labour government has set a course for the highest tax take in modern British history, as he gambles that he can get the economy and public services back on track before facing voters again in 2029.
The £40 billion ($79 billion) package of tax increases in the budget that Chancellor Rachel Reeves unveiled late on Wednesday (AEDT) would lift taxation as a percentage of gross domestic product to a record 38.2 per cent.
