Starmer, like Albo, faces a tricky task with Trump
Both left-wing leaders have to ensure political divergence does not disturb the US alliance. But Sir Keir has a particular problem: his name is Nigel Farage.
London | Donald Trump’s election victory throws the same daunting challenge at Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer as it does to his fellow left-wing leader Anthony Albanese: each has to prevent political differences from disturbing the US alliance.
Their divergent views with Trump on domestic policy will matter little. But on issues such as the Middle East, trade, climate change, multilateralism, and the relationship with China, both men will feel the loss of political alignment they had with outgoing US President Joe Biden.
